The Echoes of the Past quest in Starfield is a pivotal mission in the Crimson Fleet faction storyline that sends players deep into a frozen, abandoned prison facility. Located on the icy planet Suvorov, this mission challenges players to uncover critical clues regarding Kryx's legendary lost fortune. Navigating through dangerous environmental hazards and hostile alien creatures requires careful preparation and tactical decisions.
Arriving at the Lock on Suvorov
To begin the operation, players must travel to the Kryx system and land on the icy surface of Suvorov. After meeting with Delgado and the expedition crew, you will face an aggressive swarm of native Grylloba creatures guarding the exterior. Clearing these threats allows Delgado to use his security card and gain entry into the facility known as The Lock.
Once inside, structural collapses split the group, isolating you alongside fellow recruit Mathis. During this period of isolation, Mathis proposes a secret conspiracy to eliminate Delgado and claim the treasure for yourselves. How you handle this dialogue will heavily influence your relationship with Mathis and his ultimate fate within the fleet.
Navigating Cellblock D and Guard Towers
Progressing deeper into the complex requires restoring system power to access restricted security sectors. Players must reach the main terminal in the control room to disengage the lockdown protocols across the facility. Navigating the ruined catwalks and multi-tiered cell blocks demands constant vigilance due to persistent alien ambushes.
Inside Cell Block D, search for the terminal located in the guard tower to pinpoint Jasper Kryx's original cell. Unlocking this area also grants access to optional loot caches containing valuable contraband in neighboring cells. Taking time to search these extra rooms yields extra gear and credits for diligent explorers.
Uncovering Clues to Kryx's Legacy
Upon reaching cell D-03-118, players will notice that the room initially appears stripped of obvious leads. Inspecting a suspicious desk lamp reveals a hidden audio slate detailing the existence of a lost GalBank transport ship. Following Kryx's escape trail then leads to the shower stalls and ventilation corridors to recover further recordings.
The final audio file provides the security code needed to open a hidden maintenance hatch. Crawling through Kryx's original escape tunnel leads directly toward the armory and warden's office. These discoveries establish the foundational evidence required to track down the legendary treasure ship.
Escaping the Facility and Reporting Back
After reaching the Warden's Office, interact with the intercom to re-establish communications with Delgado. He unlocks the path to the shuttle bay, where a final battle against a giant Grylloba Queen takes place. Defeating the boss lets you board a prison transport ship and fly directly back to The Key.
At the station, reporting your finding to Delgado triggers important character interactions regarding Mathis. Choosing whether to praise or criticize Mathis determines if he remains in the Crimson Fleet or gets exiled. Finally, undercover players must debrief Commander Ikande aboard the UC Vigilance to outline the Fleet's upcoming plans.
